A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at The House of Shoes on Saturday 12 October to celebrate 50 years! I always look forward to our in store events at the start of every season, but this one was even more special. With over 50 customers, friends, colleagues, family, and suppliers, we took over the Old Brisbane Arcade in style to celebrate 50 fabulous fashionable years of shoes, community, and small local business.

For those unfamiliar with the store's history, The House of Shoes began in 1974 as The Michael Keane Shop with owners Michael & Shirley Keane.
"When the Pitt Brothers turned the once-famous Brisbane Hotel into the Old Brisbane Arcade in 1974, my wife, Shirley, and I decided to open our own shop in what used to be the hotel's front lounge. We wanted to stock different brands from James Duncan (James Duncan & Co. Shoe Shop in Launceston) and include more imported European shoes for women." - Michael Keane.
After about 12 years Michael & Shirley sold the business to Ron & Bev Overton, who renamed the store to what it is today and carried the store through another decade. Many customers will be familiar with the next owners, Denis & Jo Penny, who celebrated 20 years of ownership before Rohan and I took over The House of Shoes in 2018.
Most importantly, thank YOU! Our customers. Our community. Without you, we wouldn't be here celebrating 50 years.
